DAY 01 Guatemala – Antigua
Welcoming at La Aurora International Airport to the land of Magic, Color and Adventure! Upon arrival, transfer to Antigua Guatemala. Delivery of travel documents and folders with information on the destinations to visit.
DAY 02 Antigua
Breakfast at the hotel. At 08:30 a.m. your guide will meet you to start the half-day walking tour through the cobbled streets of this city declared a “World Heritage Site” by UNESCO. Architectural and urbanistic jewel founded in the sixteenth century, capital of the Kingdom of Guatemala during the colonial era.
We will visit the Plaza Mayor, the Cathedral and its majestic ruins, the City Hall Palace, the exterior of the Royal Palace and the Fuente de las Sirenas. We will visit the Jade Maya Museum and take a tour of the “Paseo de los Museos”, in the ancient temple and convent of Santo Domingo and Colegio Mayor de Santo Tomas de Aquino, sites that during the Spanish domination were a single unit.
Free afternoon to enjoy our beautiful colonial city.
DAY 03 Antigua – Chichicastenango – Atitlán
Packed breakfast / Breakfast at the hotel. Private transfer to the town of Chichicastenango. Upon arrival, we will visit the Church of Santo Tomás, built on the remains of a pre-Hispanic temple. You will witness the profound religious and cultural syncretism that characterizes this population.
Then we will visit the cemetery of the town, unique for its symbolism and color. There indigenous traditions are expressed daily around the ancestors. The relationship between life and death.
We will ascend to Cerro Turcaj to discover Pascual Abaj, a stone idol that fuses elements of Catholicism and Mayan religiosity. Pascual Abaj means “sacrificial stone” and is a sanctuary in honor of Hy-yup Tak’ha, god of the earth. It’s about 20 minutes of smooth and safe ascent.
If your visit coincides on Thursday or Sunday, we will take a tour of the traditional and colorful handicraft and textile market. The indigenous market is the trading center of the Maxenos, who meet every Thursday and Sunday to sell their traditional products: masks, chests, idols in wood, ceramics, jewelry and much … much more.
Private transfer to Lake Atitlan at 4:00 p.m.
DAY 04 Atitlán – Ciudad Guatemala
Sunrise in front of Lake Atitlan, a memorable experience. We recommend getting up early to see the volcanoes Atitlán, Tolimán and San Pedro, guardian colossi of this volcanic lake.
Breakfast at the hotel. At 08:30 a.m. your local guide will meet you in the hotel lobby to continue to the pier and take a private boat. We will visit the villages of Santiago Atitlán and San Juan la Laguna. Natural charm and cultural paradise on the shores of the beautiful lake.
Lake Atitlán, of volcanic origin, is surrounded by Mayan villages of the Cackchiquel and Tzutuhil ethnic groups, which are dedicated to agriculture, fishing and the elaboration of handicrafts and their diverse designs of Contemporary Maya Art.
You can see historical churches, open-air murals, nurseries of medicinal plants, workshops of beautiful textiles and workshops in which the technique of dyeing natural cotton without using chemicals has been recovered, through the use of bark, flowers, leaves and fruits. Beautiful, natural and healthy colors.
Transfer at 3:00 p.m. to the city of Guatemala.
DAY 05 Granada – Peñas Blancas – Guanacaste
Packed breakfast. Early morning transfer to La Aurora International Airport to take your domestic flight to Petén, Heart of the Mayan World.
At 08:00 a.m. Transfer in regular services to Tikal National Park, declared by UNESCO “Cultural and Natural Heritage of Humanity”.
More than 57,000 hectares covered by forests, habitat of mammals: monkeys, coatimundis, raccoons among others, as well as more than 300 species of birds and reptiles. Its archaeological vestiges rise among the jungle, looking for the sky and reaching heights of 70 m.
Tikal is one of the most important urban centers of the Mayans, with its palaces, temples, stelae and stone altars. The mapped area has 16 km. with more than 4,000 buildings. Upon entering the Tikal National Park, we will go back to the Middle Pre-Classic period, year 800 BC. We will experience its cultural, artistic, architectural and astronomical development generated for 1,500 years.
Lunch at El Mesón Restaurant, inside the National Park. Then we will continue to Flores. You will have approximately 50 minutes to explore the picturesque island on your own.
Transfer to the Mundo Maya International Airport to take the flight back to Guatemala City.
DAY 06 Ciudad Guatemala – Copán
Breakfast at the hotel. At 06:30 a.m. transfer to El Florido border to continue to Honduras. Welcoming and transfer to Copán. After lunch, guided tour of the Copán Ruinas Archaeological Park, declared “Cultural Patrimony of Humanity”. This magnificent park is located in the heart of the Copán Valley, it offers traces of the great civilization that flourished and reached its maximum splendor between the 6th and 7th centuries of our era. Transfer to the hotel.
DAY 07 Copán
Breakfast at the hotel. Visit to the Bird Park. In the afternoon tour of Hacienda San Lucas, riding on horseback or walking along the banks of the Copán River.
DAY 08 Copán – Tela
Breakfast at the hotel. Transfer to Tela. En route we will visit Finca Santa Isabel, where we will have lunch. We will continue our experience with a walk through the trails of the farm, you can observe closely the coffee process, from the seed to the cup.
DAY 09 Tela – La Ceiba
Breakfast at the hotel. Tour to the Punta Sal Marine Park. Upon completion, transfer to La Ceiba.
DAY 10 La Ceiba – La Ceiba Airport – San Pedro Sula Airport
Breakfast at the hotel. Visit to the Butterfly Farm, House of Serpents and the trails. At noon, transfer to the airport to fly to San Pedro Sula where you will connect with your international flight or continue to Roatán if you wish to take an extension.
